| Description: | The Data Center Technician is responsible for receiving files; preprocessing files; creating PostScript files; transmitting PostScript files to Vestcom’s distribution print facilities and maintaining the Data Center. Other responsibilities include acting as “Help Desk” technician for our print facilities. |
| Duties: | Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Receive incoming data for processing; identify errors and make necessary corrections, or refer to appropriate party for corrections
• Maintain production schedules for all work processed on production servers; perform production in an efficient and timely manner
• Monitor systems and processes to assure integrity of production files and output
• Provide assistance to departments with special requests, outputs, or problems with respect to reports or special production runs; answer questions from other departments regarding processing of data
• Perform special projects as required, including test runs of new programs
• Interface with outside departmental staff to correct deficiencies as it relates to data processing
• Interact with outside departmental personnel to determine the department's needs and objectives
• Coordinate assigned activities with other departments to ensure that all work is done in a timely and accurate manner; review documents with departments to verify accuracy of data
• Assist with data entry and computer operations as necessary
• Assist with label setup team when necessary
• Provide on-site or on-call data center support services to operators and/or programming staff
• Support the backup/disaster recovery planning and implementation process
• Perform tests, make corrections, retest, and verify data accuracy
• Must be willing to be very flexible
• Must be able to work unsupervised but within a team environment
• Must be willing to "take ownership" of tasks assigned
• Must be able to pay close attention to detail
• Monitor performance of programs after implementation
• Develop relationships with current programmer/analyst staff
• Must be able to serve "on call" during off-duty hours if needed
• Be open to continuing education as the needs of the business change
• Must be able to lift and carry loads that are as heavy as 30 lbs to 50 lbs
• Perform other duties as assigned

| Qualifications: | • College degree required (minimum 2 year degree). Degree must be in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or other degree with concentration in IT.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required in order to act as liaison between customers’ data centers, Vestcom print facilities’ operators, supervisors and managers, Vestcom customer service and managers, and IT staff.
• Excellent problem solving skills are needed with the ability to react to changes in standard operating procedures and implement quick and accurate decision making.
• Must have master level knowledge of computer applications, networks and computer operations. Not required but desired experience with linux/unix/freebsd, , and a variety of software including: AutoMate, WS FTP Pro, PcAnywhere, WinZip, WinZip Command Line, Adobe Distiller and Exchange, Visual Basic, .Net, SQL, and Microsoft Office. |
